I am very excited to say that I finally have photos for a photo challenge from Cee. Mom and I stayed in North Conway, N.H. last weekend, and on Saturday, we drove the circle around Mt. Washington and through White Mountains National Park. Briefly, our route was 302 to 16 to Rt.2 to 115 to 302 back to North Conway. We stopped at Dolly Copp Campground,
where as a very young child, my mother wandered away and scared her mother out of her wits. The campground is huge, and very nicely laid out. The sound of babbling brooks,
the smell of woodsmoke and the forest — a lovely stop in our drive.
We reached Gorham and drove west on Rt. 2. a few miles, then south on Rt. 115. We approached Crawford Notch from the north, and it is glorious, even without the fall colors. The north end is an actual notch,
and after passing through the notch, the beautiful valley begins to open. First is a waterfall — Silver something (I don’t remember,) and then lovely examples of New Hampshire granite.
We were very smart and/or lucky, because we met virtually no traffic through the valley, and light traffic throughout the drive. Truly a wonderful day. This is part 1 of my entry — part 2 will follow tomorrow.
