Songs I listened to then… High School 1975-78

I was remembering, the other night, some of the music I listened to in high school that wasn’t straight-up rock and roll.  I thought I’d offer a few of these for your listening pleasure.

Barry Manilow, singer, songwriter, jingle-writer, performer — I liked a lot of his music when I was in high school.  One of my favorites, from 1978’s Even Now album, was and is Copacabana:

I loved Electric Light Orchestra then, as I still do.  They had dozens of great songs during my years at Morse High.  Their platinum album, Out of the Blue, includes so many hits:  Sweet Talkin’ Woman, Turn to Stone, and Telephone Line, to name a few.  But today I’m playing Rockaria, from A New World Record.

Leo Sayer sang When I Need You, a 1977 single and a beautiful love song, written by Alfred Hammond and Carole Bayer Sager.  Sayer broke a streak of #2 songs with this one, which went to #1 in the UK, and on the Billboard Hot 100.
